Care needs

A Registered Nurse is on duty at all times they will assess and carry out any immediate care required if a residents become suddenly ill / injured according to their duty of care. They will then call the GP / emergency services as appropriate to request a visit and necessary treatment.

All medication is ordered by the home, by repeat or one off prescription. It is our policy to keep all medication in a central position and administer it to residents on prescribed rounds. We use monitored dosing systems which enable us to dipense medications safely.

Residents are encouraged to continue with their own General Practitioner. When this is not possible we can inform them of local practices that are currently accepting new patients. A doctor will normally visit within one week of admission to carry out a review or an initial assessment of the resident. This will include an examination of the resident, review of current medication and, if they have been in hospital, a follow up from the discharge summary.

Every room, bathroom, toilet and public area has a call bell. This is monitored 24 hrs by means of computer. This enables the staff to provide immediate assistance to all your needs, as well as piece of mind.

Opticians visit the home annually. A dentist visits the home regularly to provide denture care. We access the NHS Chiropody service. A private Chiropodist is available at request. Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy are available if a referral is made to the community team by the GP, Hospice care and special needs nurses (e.g. tissue viability) visit the home regularly to see their allocated residents. Dieticians, speech therapists and other specialist advisors are available by GP referral.
